About
Indie/folk rockers Dandy Man punch out an eclectic mix of fresh original tunes – something different – featuring big guitar choruses and a story behind every song. Formed back in 2016 by Dan Mortimer and Joan Farnese, Dandy Man are on a musical journey, performing at festivals and showcase sessions – Hastings Circus of Curiosities, Surrey Steampunk Convivial, Enchanted Market, Readipop Festival, Reading Beer Festival, GSMC Rock Week to mention just a few. Discography includes LP “Something I Have To Say” and EPs “Passage Through Mediocrity”, “Demos” EPs. And finally, check out our “Annie Bonnie” and “Steam Punk” music videos!
Meet the Band

Dan started songwriting four years ago having never thought it possible. The inspiration came from learning the ukulele and spending time with the lovely crowd that is the Reading Ukulele Group. Dan sings and now plays the tenor guitar rather than ukulele. His musical tastes remain eclectic as ever ranging from heavy rock to punk to funk to folk to classical. If it is emotionally exciting or moving then it’s in Dan’s bag. Outside music he has been known to waft a table tennis bat, loves the Yorkshire Dales and has started to develop a penchant for steampunk regalia.

Always a lover of theatre, singing and music, Joan rediscovered her joy of playing music with others a few years ago at RUG, through that met Dan and the rest is Dandy Man history. She loves all animals and her husband, not necessarily in that order, and is under therapy for her UAS (ukulele acquisition syndrome). ‘If someone had told me that in my 50’s I would be playing a rock(?) band I would’ve said they were mad!’……

Stewart’s first love is the acoustic guitar but playing the cajon has become a close second. He is also a songwriter who has performed solo and is a founding member of country / folk band – “Dreamsellers”.

Rick plays guitar, piano, writes and performs his own songs. But for Dandy Man, Rick is our bass player and resident dude. Enough said!

Drummer Dave (because all drummers are called Dave??) joined the band at the start of 2019. He learnt his trade performing for funk band (Not Souled Out) and as a cajon player for ukulele group – Small Strings. Dave is also a fan of steampunk and fits the Dandy Man mould perfectly.
